Gender Pronoun Presentation

What's all the BUZZ about Gender Neutral Terminology/Language?

Join us for an introductory session on pronouns and the politics of gender. Learn and discuss language that avoids bias toward a particular sex or social gender and breaks down the difference of Gender Identity and Sexuality.

Amy Sueyoshi will take us through a presentation that will give us insight on how to communicate more comfortably with all members of our community. Amy Sueyoshi is Interim Dean of the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University. Her research lies at the intersection of Asian American studies and sexuality studies. She is the author of Queer Compulsions: Race, Nation, and Sexuality in the Intimate Life of Yone Noguchi and Discriminating Sex: White Leisure and the Making of the American “Oriental” just out with University of Illinois Press.

Her essay on API queer history titled “Breathing Fire” appeared in the National Parks Foundation’s historic LGBTQ theme study in 2016. She is a founding co-curator of the GLBT History Museum, the first queer history museum in the United States, and the recipient of the Willie Walker Award for service to the GLBT Historical Society. She also seeded the Dragon Fruit Project, a community oral history project for API Equality Northern California, a queer Asian Pacific Islander advocacy group in San Francisco Chinatown.

Last year, Amy was a Community Grand Marshal at San Francisco Pride and was honored with the Clio award for her contribution to queer history. The event is free, but space is limited and registration is required.

The Prepared Renter

San Francisco is currently experiencing a housing crisis; purchase prices are high and rents are even higher! Come to our workshop to learn about affordable rentals in the city for those making less than $42,800/year. (Based on Area Median Income for San Francisco HUD Metro Area for a 1 person household; 2 person household income limit is $46,600).

In this two hour workshop for the LGBTQ community and allies we will cover what affordable rental options are available in the city, what it takes to qualify for these opportunities, and how to apply. The San Francisco housing market conitnues to be a competitive environment, especially for below market rate units, so let the Center help you become the best prepared renter you can be.

To RSVP: https://lgbtrentalworkshop.eventbrite.com

Contact Leisa Boswell at leisab@sfcenter.org or (415)865-5652 if you have questions.
