News: Fabulously Healthy: An LGBT Health Fair on Saturday June 9th at The Center

What: "Fabulously Healthy" A Resource Fair and Forum for the LGBT Community

Where: The San Francisco LGBT Community Center
1800 Market Street, San Francisco

When: Saturday June 9, 2007
10:30am to 3:00pm

(San Francisco) The San Francisco LGBT Community Center (The Center) is pleased to invite the community to a health fair, dedicated to enriching the lives of LGBT individuals, their families, and friends. "Fabulously Healthy", on June 9th, will offer panel discussions, basic health screenings, informational booths, and refreshments. This event, presented in collaboration with US Bank and California Pacific Medical Center, is free and open to all.

"The health of our community is of course important to our future," said Thom Lynch, Executive Director of The Center. "We are honored to work alongside CPMC, US Bank, and the numerous organizations in San Francisco that are tirelessly advocating for the health of the LGBT community. We're confident that The Center will be a great home for this and future health fairs, where individuals will have access to information to make healthy decisions in every aspect of their lives."

Community members are invited to visit organizations who will be tabling and presenting information at "Fabulously Healthy", including Lyon-Martin Women's Health Services, Black Coalition on AIDS, API Wellness Center, and many more.

Throughout the day, panel discussions regarding vital issues of health will be ongoing. Local policymakers will be on hand during a morning discussion about legislative impacts on health care and access. A discussion session will take place regarding the LGBT families, youth, and childcare. One panel will be examining, in particular, breast health and cancer prevention for lesbians and bisexual women. Transgender health care, a multifaceted and urgent subject, will also be discussed.

"We know that some of the best ideas and advocacy come from within the community," said Anthony Philip, Director of Health and Wellness at The Center.
"We're committed to creating an environment that serves to generate ideas and creativity around living well, as well as provide crucial information for health.

"Fabulously Healthy" is just one aspect of our Health and Wellness programming here at The Center. We're hopeful that more and more community members will come to regard us as a valuable health resource," continued Philip.

"California Pacific Medical Center is thrilled to be working with the LGBT Community Center," said Paula Lykins, Manager of Community Relations for CPMC San Francisco. "The staff and volunteers at The Center are doing excellent work for the community, and we are glad we can participate in an event that will offer a well-rounded approach to health and well-being. We hope it's the first of many collaborations!"

"Fabulously Healthy" will offer snacks and refreshments, a children's activity area, and informational booths from businesses and non-profit organizations. The fair promises to be an educational and enjoyable day for the entire family.
