Queer Ancestors: An Exhibition of Prints
by Queer Young Artists

Free Artist Reception With Print Sale
Thursday, January 26, 7 to 9 pm
The LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market Street
Queer young artists are turning to the past to carve a sound legacy for the future. They find ancestors to guide them and from bent blades create bold accounts of buried history depicting the, musicians, writers, activists, and other Queer ancestors who never made it to our history books. Some are imagined histories, created from sweat and need; others are familiar, including Harry Hay, José Sarria, Arthur Evans, Zora Neale Hurston, Divine, Cherríe Moraga, William S. Burroughs, Bayard Rustin, Keith Haring, Claude McKay, and Freddie Mercury. Documenting their encounters with the past and creating images from their own experiences of love, lust, violence, fear, and rapture, Queer emerging artists pave our path to the future.
The San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center and The Queer Cultural Center present "Queer Ancestors," an exhibition of prints by Queer young artists Erika Vivianna Céspedes, Jeff Cheung, Ángel Espinoza, A. Lolade Gbadebo, Alan Guttirez, Haruka Kelley, Justin Time , Brandon Middleton, Brianne Moore, Eva Ovalle, and Anna Robinson. See their explorations of Queer Ancestry through the meditative art of printmaking from January 18th to February 16th at the LGBT Community Center. Free artist reception with print sale Thursday, January 26th from 7 to 9 pm. For more information contact katie@katiegilmartin.com. This exhibition generously supported by The San Francisco Arts Commission, The LGBT Community Center, The Queer Cultural Center, SOMArts, Chrysalis Studio, and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

If you are interested in submitting an application to exhibit your work at The Center, please download the application and e-mail as an attachment to artandculture@sfcenter.org.
