Mia Satya

Mia Satya is a trailblazing community organizer, policy analyst, and political visionary with more than a decade of advocacy experience specializing in youth empowerment, racial justice, economic justice and LGBTQ+ liberation. Mia has four years of experience providing direct services including healthcare and employment to under-served communities and she’s excited to be joining the LGBT Center as the Lead Employment Specialist.

Mia has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political, Legal, and Economic Analysis from Mills College, is an alumna of the Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute, the Victory Empowerment Fellowship, and is the first transsexual graduate of Emerge California, the premiere political training program for women. While appointed to the San Francisco Youth Commission, Mia worked to secure Free Muni for 40,000 low-income youth and co-created a landmark LGBTQ diversity training for 9,000 City employees. Mia also played many key roles in the reauthorization of the Children’s Fund that now provides over $100M a year in critical services for youth.

Mia Satya was recognized as one of the “Most Important Political Figures in San Francisco” by the Bold Italic, named a California Women of the Year by the state Senate, and voted San Francisco Pride Grand Marshal. Mia currently serves as Vice President of External Affairs at the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club, Secretary of San Francisco Young Democrats, and Vice-Chair of the Department of Children Youth and their Families Oversight and Advisory Committee. Mia also enjoys emceeing events, swimming in her mermaid tail, and drinks 90 ounces of coffee a day.
