Queer Women of Color Film Night
Tuesday, March 5, 2002 8pm
Rainbow Room
$5 - $15, Sliding Scale Donation
Programmed by Darshan Elena Campos, this speaker and film series will blend art, discussion, and activism. The event will feature a collection of short films produced by independent women of color filmmakers that explore issues such as gentrification, home, and criminalization from a queer woman of color perspective. What makes these films "queer" is not solely subject matter but a radical political vision that understands that liberation requires an end to racism, homophobia and sexism. The worlds these films imagine are filled with possibilities, ones that are "queer" given the status quo in the real world. This idea will be discussed with those in attendance before and after each screening.
This set of films explores the meaning of home during wartime. There will be a spoken word performance after the second film and one at the close of the evening. A discussion will follow the event, allowing artists and audience members to speak about to one another and at the microphone.
This program is supported by the Creating Queer Community grants program for artists by the Queer Cultural Center and Harvey Milk Institute.
