Armando Campos

"Working with Armando has been a great experience. He's been volunteering since before I started working at the Center! His energy, dependability, and continual engagement with everyone and everything we do here at the Center is especially inspiring."- Felipe Flores, Community Programs Coordinator

Interview with Volunteer of the Month - Armando:

  • The Center:What is most memorable to you about your time at the Center?
  • Armando:Every day volunteering at The Center is unique and interesting in its own right. I would have to say the most memorable days was one where I had a chat with a man who is advanced in age and who has been living with AIDS since the 80's. At the end of our interaction, he got up and thanked me. Although we weren't able to find exactly what he was looking for, he said our chat made him feel better. It was great to know that I had a hand in that. We keep in touch to this day.
  • The Center:Why should others volunteer with the Center?
  • Armando:You should volunteer for The Center if you like meeting new people, challenging yourself and making new friends. Volunteering at The Center has been very different than any other volunteer experience I've had; the dynamism keeps me coming back. I feel like I've had the opportunity to help people in some capacity and it's a great feeling. So, if you like all that warm fuzziness, sign up!
  • The Center:What is the most rewarding thing about being an I&R Specialist?
  • Armando:The free condoms. No seriously, there are tons. Aside from that, I've found the most rewarding thing about being an I&R Specialist is feeling valued and appreciated during my shifts. Folks come in and are so grateful for offering a smile, a resource, or lending an ear. There's also a feeling of accomplishment spurred by the thank yous you'll inevitably hear when you've been able to help someone out. Cue the warm fuzziness. li>

The Center: Thanks Armando, so much for volunteering with us. I think your story will inspire other people to give back. We want to invite all volunteers to get involved in our ever growing Information & Referral Program. Our Information & Referrals Specialists are at the heart of everything we do here at the Center and it really is the most engaging and fulfilling volunteering opportunity we currently have available. We can always use more folks and we would love to have you join our team!
