The Performing Diaspora residency supports artists that are drawing on tradition as a radical way to be responsive, inclusive, and support equity. Mother the Verb & Lxs Desaparecidxs: Performing Diaspora 2017 seeks to visibilize the stories carried in queer Latinx and Afro-diasporic bodies, and minds.

Mother The Verb is a Queer/Trans dance performance, produced and created by Ivan Monteiro, Javier Stell-Fresquez, and Davia Spain, a trinity of young, fierce, POC femmes. This trinity has created an experimental performance piece exploring the glorification and damnation of our many mothers, asking how we can transcend the toxins flowing in our bodies and societies.

Lxs Desaparecidxs is a new work by queer Latinx choreographer-dance artist-curanderx, Randy Reyes. The work excavates the forming / un-forming of psychic territories, dancing with ghosts, conjuring queer ancestry, the consciousness of the quotidian, ritual, and generating systems of improvisation that oscillate between intuition, intention, and taking action.
