Queer & Proud Art Exhibition: A Celebration of Lesbian Visibility

The Center’s main gallery will feature “Through the Lens: SF ‘90s Lesbian Culture” a captivating collection that showcases powerful work by Curve magazine photographers during San Francisco’s vibrant ‘90s. Their lenses captured the era’s energy, highlighting lively Club Q party-goers, a rare glimpse of a young Rachel Maddow, and beautifully rendered black and white figures.

The second art exhibition features the winning submissions from the 2025 Curve Photo Contest, celebrating lesbian photography’s continued legacy.

The third exhibition features local artist Tanya Wischerath’s “Living Lesbian Legends.” Commissioned by the Castro LGBTQ Cultural District, Wischerath’s paintings feature lesbians and queer women who have played a significant role to the Castro and San Francisco.

Lesbian Visibilty Week was founded by Linda Riley in 2020, and serves as a beacon of support, shining a light on the experiences, perspectives, and needs of LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary people. Our mission remains clear: to increase understanding, visibility, and create a positive legacy for our community.

The Curve Foundation hosts Lesbian Visibility Week across the US and champions LGBTQ+ women’s and nonbinary people’s culture and stories through intergenerational programming and community building. The Curve Foundation is inclusive of all who identify as part of the Curve community.

SF LGBT Center’s Cultural Programs encompass visual, literary, and performance arts, as well as cultural events and civic engagement at the Center and within our local community spaces.
