SF LGBT Center Gift Recognition: Call for Artists
SF LGBT Center Gift Recognition: Call for Artists
The SF LGBT Center is seeking artists’ proposals for an art piece in the Center at 1800 Market Street in San Francisco. The piece will be on the first-floor lobby, and the project area measures approximately 28 x 41 feet. The art piece is part of a special Donor Recognition Project. The design needs to be adaptable and expandable, and it will have to feature hundreds of donors’ names. The installation will occur over several phases between January 2025 through June 2026. We anticipate future add-ons, as well as regular upkeep. Note: Due to the size and concept of the project, the proposed timeline is subject to change.
After the initial application closes, more information on the art piece’s purpose will be provided to all finalists.
Artists are invited to submit an initial application that includes their resume, portfolio, and artist statement. From there, selected finalists will be invited to submit a design concept proposal that is conceptually, aesthetically, and technically compelling. Guidelines on the concept, lobby pictures, and additional information will be provided during this phase. Concept proposals should focus on the Center’s Donor Recognition Project, as well as reflect the Center’s values and mission. After all submissions have been reviewed, the selected artist will be responsible for installing the artwork and be required to provide evidence of general liability insurance, and workers’ compensation (if applicable) per the terms of the contractor’s agreement.
ELIGIBILITY:
This request for proposals is open to professional artists living and producing art in the Bay Area, California. LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Trans, non-binary, and women artists are encouraged to apply. Qualified artists will have experience and capability to conceptualize, design, and install a large art piece in a highly visible and challenging location.
BUDGET:
After the initial application closes, Finalists will be invited to submit a draft design and a budget and present their case to a subcommittee. The budget is intended to cover all project costs including design, installation, materials, equipment, protective coating, and insurance.
