Unbreakable Pride is an SF LGBT Center initiative in partnership with LGBTQ+ centers across the U.S., responding to the surge in anti-LGBTQ+ hate and policies. Whether raising awareness, building shared programs, or providing critical resources, we stand united with our sister organizations in the fight against anti-trans and anti-queer legislation.
Discover how our Sister Centers are delivering essential services and resources to communities impacted by harmful rhetoric and policies.
Together, we are unbreakable.
HOW WE STARTED
In 2023, with over 500 anti-trans and anti-queer bills sweeping the country and a rise in LGBTQ+ individuals fleeing to California, the Center committed to meaningful action. During Pride season, we launched Unbreakable Pride to advocate for, defend, and uplift LGBTQ+ communities nationwide—true to the roots of Pride.
We partnered with eight grassroots, trans and BIPOC-led LGBTQ+ organizations in states hit hardest by anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, and Texas, to understand their challenges and offer solidarity through local and national support.
OUR IMPACT
Through Unbreakable Pride, we’ve partnered on impactful initiatives:
Hybrid Programming: We’ve bridged geographic gaps through Unbreakable Pride by extending access to the Center’s Queer & Well virtual yoga sessions, allowing The Knights and Orchids Society (TKO) in Alabama to offer this resource to their community. In addition, we invited youth from North Carolina’s Time Out Youth to submit creative works for our monthly open mic nights, fostering artistic expression and meaningful connections across states.
Replenishing Resources: Recognizing the critical need for essentials, we partnered with The Knights and Orchids Society to restock their food pantry in Alabama. In North Carolina, we worked with Time Out Youth to provide welcome baskets filled with life necessities for individuals transitioning into stable housing.
Raising Awareness: Amplifying the work of grassroots organizations is a core mission of Unbreakable Pride. We’ve highlighted key resources and services from groups like Intransitive, the Southern Trans Emergency Project, PRISM, and Lucie’s Place, ensuring their vital contributions reach those in need while drawing attention to the critical support they provide.
WHERE WE'RE HEADED
We’re looking to build new partnerships with Sister Centers in key states, including Florida, Mississippi, Wyoming, Idaho, Tennessee, and others. Our future initiatives will focus on creating sustainable shared virtual and hybrid programming, accessible resources, and more. As LGBTQ+ individuals continue to relocate from hostile states, we remain committed to fostering dialogue, providing support, and advancing this critical work in the face of adversity.
