Financial Services
Overview
In response to COVID-19, we are currently providing services remotely, as well as in-person services on a case-by-case basis. The Financial Services team is also available in-person at the Center, one day per week. The best way to reach us is to email financialservices@sfcenter.org. For the latest information on broader Center updates, please visit sfcenter.org/covid19.
The Center’s Financial Services department offers tailored programming and education on housing and financial wellness. In our programs, you will go through an intake, create a budget, review your credit, and create an action plan to achieve your goals. We provide the following services:
- Our First-Time Homebuyer and Rental programs provide educational support and programming for community members looking for assistance with rentals or to become a first-time homeowner through the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD).
- Free financial coaching for clients ages 18+ who live or work in San Francisco, through our Smart Money Coaching program to help people identify and reach money goals. The program focuses on improving or building credit, managing debt, building savings, budgeting, and banking.
If you are in need of immediate housing placement, please check out our resources page.
First-Time Homebuyer Program
The Center offers HUD-approved workshops, courses, and counseling. This education series meets the requirements to obtain the 10-hour Verification of Homebuyer Education Certificate needed to participate in the affordable First-Time Home Ownership Programs administered by the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD).
Check out our events calendar for more information on upcoming workshops.
Below Market Rate & Affordable Rental Program
Join our Below Market Rate (BMR) & Affordable Rental workshops to learn more about the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development’s (MOHCD’s) BMR Rental Program and other affordable housing opportunities within San Francisco.
We also provide 1-on-1 Rental Counseling, where a household creates their Spending Plan with a housing counselor to see how much they can afford for housing. From there, our housing counselor will work with you to create an Action Plan for your household with tangible steps you can take to reach your goals. It’s designed for stably housed people looking for more affordable housing during a one-time meeting.
Check out our events calendar for more information on upcoming workshops or email financialservices@sfcenter.org to request 1-on-1 counseling.
